Kickman will be a little bit late, hopefully I’ll have it posted later today. Just wanted to mention a quick clean-up to the site from last week. I added direct links to each of the Patreon-only pages into the notes of the strip that they are supposed to follow. This way it’s easier to read them in their proper chronological order, especially for new readers/supporters.
At the end of this chapter, I was thinking of changing Kickman’s page layout to a vertical format, closer to the dimensions of an actual comic book page. I chose the current 8″ x 6″ horizontal because I figured, “It’s a webcomic. Most people will be reading it on their computer screens.” But I would like to be able to produce some actual print comics at some point and the current format would make for a Garfield-shaped print edition…
Would a vertical layout be inconvenient for reading online though? Instead of just using the arrow keys to go forward and back to read through past pages (which you can totally do by the way if you are too lazy to press NEXT or PREV–although I have no idea how to enable that because I haven’t been able to do the same for Java Jaguar) you would also need to scroll down.
So it goes from READ – Click – READ – Click…
to
READ – scroll – READ more – Click – READ – scroll – READ more – Click…
Any thoughts, Kickfans?
Use a half comic page layout as an alternative. Then when you need a full page, you can easily double stack.
Another way to do it is a 2/3 page layout that easily splits when converting to full page.
But full vertical comic book proportion pages look crappy most of the time on screen. Layout wise, that is, the rest depends on the artist skills and you’re, well, you’re getting better all the time. 😛
I love the goofy hokeyness of the strip.
My current size is slightly taller than a half-page, so to go to a half-page layout I might have to actually compress it a bit. Which I’d rather not do, I have a hard enough time fitting all the dialog into each strip. Generic Kung-Fu Superhero Sidekick s mouthy.
