Actually (and irrelevantly), symbols come before letters alphabetically only since the digital age. I’m acttually old enough to have learned the alphabet version where ampersand was the letter after Z.
But I loved this story (hence the irrelevant quibble)! It’s like all those comics where Superman and the Flash raced and Flash kicked the Big Blue Boy Scout’s ass every time! At least, that’s the way I remember them. 🙂

Correct (& great trivia). The name of the “&” character derives from the phrase “and, per se, and.” I’m thinking, given Alpha’s catch-up rate (& Matt’s bum rush), this obscure fact won’t occur to him until the tears of pain have dried. Again.
