“Thou Shalt Kick!”
That’s what those Hebrew letters say on the sacred staff in the last panel. Assuming Google Translate is in the right neighborhood that is. Back when the glowing letters first showed up page 13, I had Google Translate give me “Holy Smite” and it was the exact same set of characters repeated twice. So, who knows. But it looks really cryptic and impressive.
Last week, Vadan asked if I would be willing to run a one-shot D&D adventure for my followers. Honestly, I had never considered it before. But… Anyone here interested in participating in an online round of D&D? I could set up a game in Roll20. It might be fun. Answer below in the comments.
What are the hebrew letters on kickman’s feet supposed to say? I read hebrew, but can’t quite make out the words
I put it in the commentary under the comic. I used Google Translate, so it may not be even close to accurate. “Thou Shalt Kick” –> “אתה בועט”
Aha!
Well, here I can offer my expertise, on 2 points.
firstly, the translation of אתה בועט is ‘you are in the process of kicking’- i.e. this is what you are currently doing (‘present tense, kicking’), as opposed to ‘hey you, go and kick- which would be אתה בעט- you, go kick, in ‘command’ form. Or being even more direct, just ‘בעט’- command form ‘kick.’ Personally, I’d go with דרוס- ‘Trample, or Stomp’ as a more apt description. (it also sounds better- DROSS, instead of Bo-ET)
But the bigger issue is that you’ve written the letters backwards! Hebrew is right to left, not left to right…
I’ll blame Google on the backwardness. I cut and pasted it from Translate. Or, wait… (turns holy stick over) Now, it’s fine!
Can’t join the game (speech disability), but I can help with networking\connectivity #$!@!
I’d consider joining the game but I work long hours on Fridays and weekends. I’m free weekdays (mostly) but that’s not usually when other people are free.
Well, we’ll see if a few other people chime in. My usual gaming day is Wednesday night from 7:00 to 10:00 pm Hawaii time (because that’s when we started playng). Which is 10 pm to 1:00 am where I currently am in NorCal. But it was 1:00 am to 4:00 am while I was on the East Coast. I’ll try my best to come up with something that a lot of people can accomodate. And I don’t have a job per se, so I am very flexible. Now I’m getting excited to run a game. Maybe everyone should re-read the chapter “Power Play” to see the kind of gamer I don’t want at my table…
That would be 6am to 9 am the next day for me. I’ve left behind my snobbishness against D&D, but I fear I’ll have to pass on this one. Have fun, siblings! And if you would be so kind, dedicate a momentous die roll to me.
I’m always up for D&D…
I see Kickman is following the wisdom of Mirumoto Rosanjin’s training. “In situations like this, hopelessly outnumbered, there [is] only one thing left that a warrior [can] do. Brag, and hope for the best.”
They’ve lost the advantage of hiding out, but it was lost anyway. Now Grayhawk will find them more easily.
