Next time, let the sidekick handle the art.
Just finished this strip in the nick of time for publication. That stupid double panel of the inside of a busy newsroom took a long time. Same with the first ever exterior view of Superior Palace in Superior City. I don’t like drawing “stuff” like buildings and furniture. If I had more time (or if I were getting paid for this strip), I would have actually had something on all those TV screens and computer monitors. Instead we can just assume that they are all in the process of rebooting after Generic Kung-Fu Superhero Sidekick’s hacking attack to take over an international news station.
Don’t worry he used a Russian VPN so no one will think to blame him.
Several intentional Easter Eggs in this page if anyone wants to take a crack at identifying them. And probably a dozen or more unintentional ones. Go nuts!
Lastly…. Happy Father’s Day everyone! Except for women. And guys with no kids.
Next… Let’s get REEEADDDYY TO KICK! Hmmmm…. can’t really stretch those syllables.
That is the Greatest. Line. Ever
Thank you, thank you. I literally added that at the last minute. I think I added about 3 little jokes in the process of drawing and writing the speech bubbles from my original script.
Hm. Land Herf is an easter egg I think, as is the reference to kicking Superi-Jerk to the moo0n.
Less obviously, the spray can is Super Red, which might conceal Superior Red. Kickman might have used Superior brand spray paint for the defacing.
There’s also a Superior hearing reference in the newsroom, as well as the more obvious reference in the Zoom panel.
The Shushing about the superior hearing we will call an Unintentional Easter Egg. So 1 more Kick Point for MerlinOfTheTower!
Yes, two Kick Points for MerlinOfTheTower. It is indeed Superior-brand spray paint and the color is Superi-Red (it just trails off the edge of the can).
Yes, two points for “HERF.” It is a vague reference to this Far Side Cartoon:

The moon shot, not so much an Easter Egg, just a recap of history. No points for that one.
Last guess on Superior Man’s powerset. If people think he’s more popular than others, he is more powerful; if they think he is less popular, he is less powerful. The power was intended to ‘fix’ self-image issues, with our anonymous Bestower intending for things to leve off.
Gah misspelling. Level off, I mean.
The clue was eye flare. When the power surges, his eyes light up. 🙂
Nope, nothing like that. I tend to just do the eye flare when he’s angry. Superman does the same thing but in red…
Why is Superiorjerk supposed to land on that X? Is that were the backup subatomic disintegrator, backup hard gamma laser, backup ultrasonic hypnosis inducer, backup neural scrambler and backup anti-gravity railgun with backup microscopic neutronium bullet are aiming at?
Nah, it’s just the optimal spot for exchanging kicks. According to, um… physics. You have to know these things when your name is Kickman.
Isn’t “Great Caesar’s Ghost” a Perry White line?
Yes, it is! 2 Kick Points for Tom_G. There is an additional 2 Kick Points available if you or someone else can tell me what’s wrong with the guy saying “Great Caesar’s Ghost!” (besides the spelling error).
Perry always had either a coat or vest on, while this fellow in just wearing a shirt. Also, Perry is usually either shaking a fit or pointing a finger, not making whatever gesture has been so carefully drawn here. Is that ASL?
Yes it is! It translates to ‘I Love You’. I have no idea what the Caesar’s Ghost connection is, if any.
Well the triple Easter Egg in that character is he: 1) Looks like J. Jonah Jameson, 2) Is yelling a Perry White quote, while 3) Is making the Spider-Man “thwip!” gesture with the hand that is pushing the door open…
J. Jonah Jameson was the BEST Perry White parody ever!
And all my fellow Geezers know this….
