Happy Easter, everybody!
Finally! Time to rescue Lana. She’s been through an awful lot of abuse in the… however long it’s been since the fall of Superior Man. Probably at least 6 months. Maybe I should start keeping a Kick Calendar….
Nah.
I am in Redwood City, California currently, taking care of Munchy the toothless Bichon Frise. This is the third time I’ve pet-sat for Munchy. The first time he had two other dogs with him, so raise a glass for Smokey and Baby who have passed on since then.
So, here on the west side of the SF Bay, there is an event called the Comic Arts Fest that runs throughout April. Since I am here, I’ve decided to take advantage of as many events as I can. On Saturday I went to a workshop called “Anime Your Way” with Carlos Nieto III (no relation to Alexander Luthor III). So I went and attended a class on making anime faces, and yes there were a lot of kids there, but I am always down for practicing my fundamentals. Here’s the face I drew, which is pretty good considering it has been probably… 8 years…? since I’ve drawn anything using a pencil.
If there is anybody in the SF Peninsula area that wants to meet up, here are the upcoming Comic Arts Fest Workshops that I will most likely be attending, since I have no real job aside from feeding and walking a doggy:
Mon, Apr 21, 5:30 pm. Redwood City Downtown Library. Think It, Ink It. Comics Basics with Carlos Nieta III.
Tue, Apr 22, 4:00 pm. East Palo Alto Library. Think It, Ink It. Manga Madness with Carlos Nieta III.
Wed, Apr 23, 3:30 pm. South San Francisco Library. Zine Making with Eddy Atoms.
Thur, Apr 24, 3:30 pm. Millbrae Library. Draw It! Get the Right Attitudes with Wahab Algarmi.
I will also be attending the Easter Service at Central Peninsula Church at 11:30 am in Foster City. Although, I am publishing this on the same day of the service, so it might be too late to come find Matt by the time you are reading this.
So, the very important question of the day is: “Who is Lana being dressed up as? Elastigirl or Violet?”
Lana’s uniform is Incredible……. (any licensing fee there?)
Actually Apple has already filed a lawsuit because she is wearing an iCostume.
When I used to live in the Bay Area (about 10 years ago?), East Palo Alto was a *bad* neighborhood, hopefully it’s gotten better since then…
niche.com gives it a C- grade for Crime and Safety. I’ll bring my nunchucks just in case of trouble. https://www.niche.com/places-to-live/east-palo-alto-san-mateo-ca/#crime-safety
Apparently Kickman has it in for Angler. Not only has he put in the effort to come up with a pun, but he’s got a boot with his initial on it!
(Oh, and I’m nitpicking, but I’m not sure about Grayhawk’s grip on Mandy’s forearm in the third panel. I feel it should be rather easy to spin her forearm, fold her elbow and shoot him in the head/chest/something. But then, I’ve always been bad at aikido, so what do I know.)
Last, Lana is dressed as neither: both have black gloves that end under the elbow and Lana’s go up higher. Nice trap! (I guess that’s why no one’s gave an answer.) All right, so if I have to choose one, I think Lana is dressed up as Elastigirl because Violet has a headband. (Not all times, but enough to make it distinctive.)
Obtuse is an inside joke between me and Jason (the Real Kickman). From the scene in Shawshank Redemption when Andy calls the warden “obtuse” and he is so incredibly offended he throws him into solitary for two months. We joked that we would create a movie where aliens come to Earth, the opening scene is just Earthlings and Aliens hurling insults back and forth at each other like a deranged UN meeting. Then the Earth SecGen calls the aliens obtuse and they immediately declare war. Then there will be 90 minutes of stuff blowing up.
As for the arm lock, you have to consider that the energy comes from the solar plexus and channels out the arm, which causes the muscles to all lock in place, so she can’t make with a bendy escape. Yeah, yeah, that’s the ticket…
Okay, I thought “obtuse angle(r)” was a neat pun. I stand corrected.
(I haven’t seen Shawshank Redemption yet. I loved the novella. Maybe someday.)
Good momentum transition with panels 1, 2, and 3. (Jay > Jay & Matt > Matt) People don’t really do that anymore.
