Aloha, Kickfans. For those of you familiar with Webtoons it is pretty much the biggest deal in webcomics these days as far as I can tell. I’ve never actually paid that much attention to their site or format, instead making my own independent site here. I never had any plans to switch to another platform, but then I saw in one of the webcomic Facebook groups some people talking about this contest that Webtoons was hosting. I also probably would have ignored that entirely, except that the prize for first place is $80,000.

So I’m entering the contest.

And since I really don’t have time to produce a full comic line in the next month, I’m dissecting some past Kickman chapters and uploading them there.

I don’t think that my odds are great. First, I’m getting a late start and the number of likes for your strip is a factor in the judging. Second, most of the comics there (at least all the popular ones) appear to be anime and manga style. And lastly, they have a weird format for their viewing engine where instead of pages it displays individual panels in a continuous vertical stream and they all have a fixed width.

So a page that originally looked like… this converts to this…layout2
layout1

Which turns the large dramatic landscape panels into tiny hobbit tunnels.

But, whatever. I think my strip is more about the comedy than the art.

Oh, the whole reason I brought this thing up is because PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE could you go over to Webtoons and read, like, share and whatever else you can possibly do there for Kickman. Here’s the link to my page (currently 2 and a half chapters are live). I could really use a Christmas miracle about now.
