There goes the fourth wall! Again!
I’m surprised no one called me out on the narrator text on the first page of the chapter. I usually only use them for a “Continued” or to establish a location like “Mom’s House of Pies,” but never to explain what is happening in the scene. Which was the standard for most Marvel and DC Comics as I was growing up, but which has been mostly abandoned I think in modern comics. I remember many a fight starting with the narrator letting me know that “no quarter was asked, and none was given.”
So for those of you that hate the narrator box. Vote in the upcoming poll and he can be terminated by Kickman, LLC. And for those of you that love the narrator… well, don’t get too attached. It takes so much more typing!
I’m actually in favour of this development. The Narrator has an external perspective that might prove useful. What the Narrator has is a kind of omniscience – he (or she) can provide passive intel about enemies that could be very, very convenient. I just hope it’s in the contract that only Kickman’s team and readers can hear him, as that can work both ways…
I’m always up for a bit of 4th Wall Breakage, so narrate away! I loved the narrator bits in the Brendan Fraser movie George of the Jungle, e.g.
“Narrator: And so, onward and upward the tired trekkers trudged on feverished footsies over perilous paths. When they beheld the mighty Ape Mountain, the reacted with awe.
Group: Awwww…
Narrator: I said, “Awe.” A-W-E.
Group: Ooh…
Narrator: That’s better.”
The story is dragging a bit, by Matt standards, so lets start commenting on The Real Superheroins of Hive Valley since there aren’t enough comments there….
On that note… 50 Kick Points to anyone that can tell me what happens in the next panel of The Real Superheroines of Hive Valley after the 11:00 pm Pool Party! panel that I’m about to update. You have until Monday… GO!
Haven’t a clue. All I’m going to say is newbie drinkers who over drink to HORK everything up and one with superpowers might have interesting affects.
Honestly, I have a really hard time predicting the comic. Every twist is a surprise and it always feels fresh. You’re very skilled.
