It’s been a while since I’ve done an homage cover. And now that we are going into an epic team vs team battle, I figured this is the time. Also, wanted to actually do this chapter in a format more like a traditional comic book. In case I decide to print this chapter out and make a commemorative Kickman issue. Why this chapter? Because, this chapter will forever be remembered as the one where… whoops! Spoilers! I almost told you who’s going to die! Let me just slap my wrist here.
This Kickman page was completed and uploaded from the Panera in Thousand Oaks, California. Unfortunately, once I head north from here there are no Panera locations around the next couple of cities that I’ll be based out of. I’ll need to find another office. So many (first world) problems.
Enjoy this time lapse video of the cover art. What you can’t see is me switching tabs going back and forth from Clip Studio to the original cover that I stole this scene from. Oh, I guess I’ll give 3 Kick Points to the first person that can tell me the comic title and issue no that I am homaging… homage-ing? Is that a word?

I see Cecil kept the giant crushed ball Kickman hit his base with back in “Separate Ways”. Is the safeword still “PAYDAY”?
Actually, that crushed up truck has been a vital part of Team Kick’s crime-fighting arsenal for a while now. They used it to take out Doctor Eel and to destroy a statue of Horus commissioned by that, uh… that Pharaoh guy whose name I forgot. Fearsome Pharaoh? It’s basically Kickman’s favorite ball.
“Betrayed” by the U.N.! Wouldn’t that have to mean the UN did the right thing for once??
And they weren’t exactly working for the U.N. to begin with. I just needed to put something in the “betrayed by” window to match the text from the original comic cover that I stole this from.
Is it Marvel’s “Civil Wars” issue 2
Or is it from DC’s Injustice series 🤔
Nope and nope.
No idea what the cover is, (Def. not Lantern corps or Wildstorm-related). Searching didn’t bring anything up either… variant? (nah) I’m stumped.
(On the upside, I did rediscover Grendel vs. The Shadow which is a fine pulp comic for anyone who likes that sort of thing.)
No idea how Team Kick’s gonna survive this!
As Egg Shen once answered a similar question: with difficulty.
Man, your name does not check out
It’s actually a reference to a specific movie that gave us so many meme-worthy phrases it is inconceivable.
But… I must know…
@Matt:
Get used to dissapointment. 😉
Hmmm… I thought this would be easy, but really, it depends what comics you were raised on I guess. Truth be told, this was an expensive issue and I’ve never read or owned it… But it was always one I would see displayed on the wall of a comic shop.
Well, it’s a very nice cover. Reminds me of Golden Age Thor when he fought Hercules
By any chance could we get a decade. Or would that be cheating
Released in the 1970s
How about Avengers vs. Squadron Supreme (Avengers 141). I’m not sure if 141 is the issue number but am I close?
That’s a close match, but it’s missing some vital elements. The character in the middle of both groups with his arms raised encouraging the battle. Also, the two foreground figures are zoomed in too far.

I had to look around a little bit, since I’ve only read a few paper comics. It looks like it’s X-Men “Volume 1” #100. Which I assume is just the 100th issue of the original X-Men run.
Ding ding ding! That’s it! Uncanny X-Men #100! 5 Kick Points for Rakkety Tam!
He means this one.
